E85: It Is Possible

Author: David Atkin

Lately I've been seeing more and more people looking for way to convert their old cars to E85 ethanol, everybody seems to be under the impression that it can't be done, or it's just to difficult, and it's not worth the time, but I'm here to tell you, it's not that hard, although it's not a one afternoon job, it will require some planning on your part, and it will take some time to complete, but if you're a true gear head then none of this should worry you.

I'm sure that you've changed your fuel pump, fuel lines and put a new carburetor on your car before, this is all you will be doing to switch to ethanol, the first and most important thing to think about is, where will you get the parts to do the job, well I suggest trying Jegs or Summit Racing on the net, you'll need a fuel pump that will be able to pump alcohol without beings destroyed, in other words, it can't have any rubber parts in it, the same will go for the carburetor, or fuel injection, none of the fuel system can depend on rubber parts to get it's job done.

As to the fuel lines, I know that there are people out there right now saying, good lord, what do I do about the fuel lines, their all rubber, or at least where the fuel filter hooks in to the fuel line, you do realize that new cars are running off of ethanol now, this means that the things you need for the fuel line are available, it's not a huge stretch to go down to the dealer and ask them what they are using for fuel lines with E85 ethanol, what a novel idea huh "LOL", if the new cars can run it then the old ones can to.

Don't let anybody tell you that it can't be done, anything can be done, and anything is possible, an E85 conversion is just not as hard as people want to make it sound, yes it will require some work on your part, and some planning if you plan on doing it yourself, if you take it to a local shop to have it done, well then you don't even have to worry about it, if you know the shop, and the quality of work that they do.

I'm telling you, you can have anything on your old car that people have on the new ones, don't let people tell you that it's impossible, nothing is impossible, if you can imagine it, it can be done, you can have power seats, power windows, heated seats, heated side view mirrors, whatever you see on the new cars, can be put on the old ones, and you have more latitude to do the things that you want with an old car.
