Growing Our Own Fuel and Our Addiction to Foreign Oil

Author: Lance Winslow

In reviewing our foreign dependence or rather addiction on foreign oil most realize that this can lead to a dead end road if we are not smart about which fuels we use. The short answer approach makes sense; that is to say "We should grow our own fuel!"

Yet we must also consider how much can we grow and how can we ramp up our distribution channels to meet demand if GM and Ford build 5 million hybrid and alternative fuel cars next year. Or what can we do if our enemies cut off oil supplies? Ah, growing our own fuel seems very promising indeed in this case doesn't it? Ethanol can be run in current automobiles so that makes sense, but simply stating we are going to grow our fuel makes it tough to talk about something as complex as the flow of fuel.

Many do not realize how much fuel it takes to keep America on the road and you would not believe how much water it takes to grow that many crops to supply that demand. This is a good thing for the American Farmers and although we cannot grow all our fuel it sure would be wonderful to grow an ever-increasing percentage of it. This makes a lot of sense. Can we introduce Bio Fuel and Bio Diesel into our fuel usage in a much bigger way than we are today? Can we use help our farmers and prevent our growing addiction to oil? Can we make the switch now and prevent ourselves from being held for ransom with our nation over a barrel? Consider this in 2006.
