Work-at-home Business Opportunities Are They Safe?

Author: Lance Winslow

Are work-at-home business opportunities truly safe? Well, like anything some are and some are not. A business, which one can run out of their home makes sense for a lot of people including working moms, however there have been some unethical practitioners in this sector of business opportunities, which have caught they eye of the Federal Trade Commission for fraudulent inducements.

In a recent report by the Federal Trade Commission on proposed rulemaking changes for all business opportunities, work at home business opportunities were cited as often problematic. Below are some of the observations in experience that the Federal Trade Commission has encountered when dealing with fraudulent work at home business opportunity schemes and why the FTC is considering them in their upcoming rulemaking changes;

Work-at-home schemes

"Deceptive work-at-home schemes are a persistent type of fraud, preying upon stay-at home parents, the physically disabled, non-English speakers, and others who cannot obtain employment outside of the home. For the most part, they are not distinguishable in any material respect from business opportunities covered by the existing Franchise Rule. at least $1,000, with over 48% reporting losses of over $5,000. Approximately 24% reported losses over $10,000."

After reading this short excerpt you can certainly see why the FTC wants to make sure that consumers are not harmed or fraudulently induced to buy into such work at home schemes from unethical practitioners, who might lie simply to make the sale. Now then, we must remind people that there are many legitimate work at home business opportunities available market and sometimes working at home makes a lot of sense. I hope you will consider this in 2006.
