Solar System Models

Author: Eddie Tobey

Solar system models tell the story of the system, whose bodies have orbited continuously around the sun since their coming into being.

Various models explain how the system has evolved and how it might end billions of years from now. The birth of the sun and the steps that built up the celestial bodies comprising the system have all been serialized in model form by various educational and scientific institutions.

Vivid illustrations of planets, moons, asteroids, and comets are made alive using symbolic models. Building a model of our solar system is a good way to learn about the Earth and other planets that revolve around the sun. The materials can be purchased from websites or can be procured locally, as kits are available.

Solar system models provide a symbolic representation of the mysteries that are unraveled during various space missions. These missions also communicate impressions of the solar system through maps, 3D models of planetary bodies, and the spacecraft. Nowadays, 3D computer graphic maps and software programs help create multi-ethereal images as authentic as those taken by NASA spacecraft. However, most are inventive in nature cannot be used for scientific analysis. Some 3D graphic models include the smaller moons and even asteroids in the solar system.

The sun, which is only an average star, is the center of attraction of planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, as well as satellites of the planets, comets, asteroids and meteoroids. The interplanetary medium, the Milky Way, and the sheer distance, getting longer with the outreach of each planet, offer unending scope for creation of models, including mathematical ones.
