Corporate Mommies

Author: Maria Romain

Depending on what generation you are from, you might remember a time when fathers went to work, while mothers stayed home with their children. Those who are members of the baby boomer generation may be able to relate. It seems as though some of the members of the baby boomer generation set a trend that stated moms can do it all. It was during the baby boomer generation that several mothers moved toward joining the corporate world. Child daycare services became very popular among several American households. Other fast growing trends were TV dinners, microwaves, and fast food. Hence, the baby boomers produced what is known as Generation X.

The Generation Xers decided to take the statement moms can do it all to a higher level. Not only were mothers removed from the home and into the workforce, but fathers were removed from the home permanently or were never apart of the home in the first place. During Generation X and currently, the divorce rate sky rocketed to an all time higheven within the church. Now, we move on to the present generationGeneration Rx.

Generation Rx is currently populated with young children, teenagers, and young adults who abuse drugs. Because so many children are abusing drugs, society has marked this entire generation with the term Rx. As sad as this may sound, the truth hurts has proven itself several times over. It is strongly suggested that Generation Rx was directly affected by the revolution of mothers going into the corporate workforce and fathers not present in the home. As a result, these children are either spending countless hours away from their homes or at home alone. With mom at work and dad living outside the home, who is rearing todays generation?

Currently there is a wide variety of mothers who have joined forces to commit themselves to their number one purposeraising children. Some new-age mothers have become what are known as work-at-home moms. They are still in some form a part of the corporate world, except they are working from within the home.

Corporate moms earn a living while staying home to raise their children. Let's not forget our work-at-home dads. They are setting a new trend as well. If you feel torn between spending more time with your children and working full-time, you may want to consider working from home. Whether you own your own home-based business or work for someone else, you will reap many benefits. You set your own hours and vacation days, all while enjoying the gift of spending time with your family. What a way of getting the best of both worlds.
