Damir CD Title: Black and White Released: Feb 2006 Review

Author: Avner Isaac

Damir is the new modern architect against conformity and commercialism and at the same time free spirited to be categorized, crossing over from the stage to the podium and back to the stage. Black and White is Damir's most accomplished release to date, an album that is inspired; inventive, ambitious and cutting edge lyrically. Having spent time in Tokyo, Japan, Damir accomplished a track giving respect to Japanese Culture as well as introducing himself to his new audience. Crossing all barriers, when moving to a non-English speaking country this artist put his best foot forward and put together White Boy Gaijin, where Damir raps in Japanese.

Typically, Black and White is an English album, with an attempt to cross over to a new market. Maybe a marketing ploy as most would see it, but I see it as sincere, genuine and a natural growth from living in Japan. Black and White encompasses this idea by stepping into technology and keeping with the formula of the traditional hip-hop track.

The balance between the keyboard technology and tradition shines light on inventiveness and capabilities of his caliber. The most interesting element of Damir's music is the multiplicity of styles. As most albums wrap themselves around concepts, the wonderment of a one hit song, and finally many guests featured on each track, Black and White has no blueprint to the existing one album mind sketch.

Combining hip hop 70s with a future techno industrial edge.

Rap music, specifically Damir, has freed us from many conventional song-writing formulas.
