Spirituality: Do You Fear Death?

Author: Nick Arrizza, M.D.

If you fear death, does this help or harm your chances of dying?

Well many individuals think that fearing death:

1. Keeps them alert and cautious, so that,

2. Nothing harmful happens to them, so that,

3. They will be protected, so that,

4. They will feel safe, secure, relaxed, at peace, and happy, so that,

5. Their stress level will go down, so that,

6. They will be healthy and their longevity will increase.

In other words they believe that:

(A) The fear of death makes them healthy and extends their life.

Is that really so?

I ask you to notice how it "feels" to be immersed in that fear right now.

To do this think of the last time, if there was one, when your health was failing and the thought of death came into your mind. Connect to the actual fear that goes with such a scenario and allow yourself to feel it.

Notice what it does to you.

You'll probably notice some or all of the following: anxiousness, dread, nervousness, fear, panic, feeling out of control, feel your heart sinking, a sense of heaviness, feel helpless, feel hopeless, feel like your stress level just went way up and so on.

Now does this sound like an experience of health to you?

Is this improving your life? Well of course not; its only digging you into an early grave, isn't it?

If you see that then simply admit that to yourself and then notice how you feel.

You may now feel: a sense of relief, a calmness, more joyful, more care free, lighter, more peaceful and so on.

Isn't this the state that you've always been looking for; the one that will truly improve your health and extend you longevity?
