There are many different and varied approaches to dealing with everyday stressors in a busy lifestyle. Stressors are considered anything that creates stress in us. Stress provides us with both positive and negative effects. The positive effects of stress help us to rise to new challenges, while negative stress can affect our health in various ways.
Positive stressors help us to deal with challenges like new projects, work presentations or emergencies. Positive stress helps us with maintaining focus and enabling us to handle the challenge. Some negative stressors are work overload, traffic, busy schedules or any number of other reasons. The negative stressors can result in anger, frustration, performance reduction, unhappiness or even depression. Some physical symptoms can be headaches, high blood pressure or ulcers.
There are many things you can do to reduce or minimize the stress in your life. Some suggestions are visualization, music, aromatherapy, meditation or just taking the time to relax by soaking in your tub or reading a good book in an area with no distractions. Visualization and meditation are similar because they use the mind to control the body. Visualization is picturing what you want to be or where you want to be. Meditation is focusing your attention in a specific direction (breathing, clearing your mind, etc) and thus altering the affect of stress on the body. Music and aromatherapy uses the senses to control the body. Music can lower our heart rate through the beat of the music or just provide an environment to promote relaxation. Aromatherapy affects the sense of smell and has the ability to evoke very strong memories. Your choice should be something that brings back happy memories.
Some ideas to create an area in your home to relax in are:

De-clutter your home - Eliminating clutter removes the stress associated with a messy home.

Music - Select something that will help you relax and provide a soothing environment. Classical or instrumental music can provide the a relaxing atmosphere for you.
Cut back on activities - Select activities that provide enjoyment for you.
Things you can do to help de-stress your work environment are:
Display pictures that bring happy memories - .
Schedule your day - organize your workday.
Schedule enough time between meetings to easily get from one to the other. Schedule your breaks and lunch times. Schedule time for responding to email Be prepared to say no to some requests. Take 5 minutes every hour to stretch. Take a walk around the office space.
Music - You can select relaxing music to play softly in the background. You can also use an MP3 player or headphones if the environment is noisy.
Creating an environment to relax in is a highly personal decision. You are the one that has the ability to modify your lifestyle. You are the only one that can select a d'cor that provides a relaxing environment for you. The selection of the aromatherapy scents is also a highly personal decision. One scent that provides enjoyment for one, may not provide enjoyment for another.
